Certifications are great, but at least in India, many craftsmen and artisans are not in a position to afford certifications. So the brands can do a background check and ground-level research to understand the ethos rather than insisting on certifications.

3 Recycling and upcycling

A third way to source textiles sustainably is to recycle and upcycle existing materials, rather than buying new ones. Target to have at least all bio-degradable elements in your product. At this point, we do not have a robust after-life program for the clothing. Hence the decision made while picking that shirt from the rack years ago, is paying a price today, will pay a price tomorrow and even years to come.
