How can ERP team leaders create a more inclusive workplace?

Since ERP implementation generally takes place in the client's workplace , the internal culture of the implementation team will have an interactive relationship with the client's organizational culture. That is, as it is affected by the customer's environment, it can also affect it. In such a situation, the ERP implementation team leader can do the following: 1- Identifying the influencing factors under his/her control 2- Deciding which leadership approach should use by knowing the team. Generally, directive approaches are used for junior teams ,and collaborative leadership are used for more experienced. 3- Job rotation is also one of the things that can create motivation in people and prevent monopolization of specializations in people.

As we continue to evolve in terms of new operating models and technology modernisation, enterprise digital transformation are moving away from realm of one time projects to BAU. ERPs can facilitate drive this at scale. ERP leaders need to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams, align them with a vision that helps team to see how that can contribute to other organisational goals and motivate them to work as a cohesive COE. Teams may come from different functions and an inclusive approach by ERP leaders can deliver significant value for organisation

To create a more inclusive workspace, it is required that we delegate the roles and responsibilities of all the team members and have a job description that details the requirement of each team member and their contributions towards the success or delivery of each project or work done.

Leader must firm believe that diversity is a strength. Start in mind and execute in the field. The homogeneous team is only good to do repetitive/mundane task with narrow scope. The bigger market to handle, the more diverse team needed. But leader must take affirmative action to promote diversity instead of leaving it to happen naturally.

Building a diverse and inclusive team has nothing to do with your customer base or anything else other than because it's the right and best thing to do. You need perspective, especially when delivering ERP programmes, and you get this by having the uniqueness of people and what they have to say. It does NOT matter about what people are but who they are and what they bring to your team. I hire on skill, experience, knowledge, personality and behaviours, and look for people of all types. Personally I choose MBTI and Belbins Team Role Theory to do this as they work for me. The outputs help me understand more about people and how they will fit into the team.

The whole concept of Enterprise wide Resource Planning System ( ERP) hinges on inclusiveness. ERP Projects often fail if stakeholders across functions are not engaged and involved in the process. 1. Defining shared objectives 2. Common & shared vision, 3. transparent KPI’s, 4. a cross functional team of user leaders, 5. cross functional syndication of tasks and milestones and a 6. steering committee which has various functional leaders are important steps to ensure a inclusive and successful implementation of an ERP Project. ERP projects done in isolation by IT and Accounts dept more often than not end up failing and are waste of time and money for organisations

We are organizing mentoring meetings which letting team members share their learnings from experiences weekly. During these meetings other team members are able to share their point of views and resolutions on the shared content. And at the end, there is a consesus to be decided and shared as a knowledbase articles.

Be a champion of L&D. Be a leader who develops & grows teams (no matter if they are contractors, interim or permanent). Your approach should be one of continual learning, as the level of innovation is incredible currently and has pace. You have to keep up. I find a useful tool for weekly team meetings is to agree a relevant topic and allocate it to a team member to learn about. The following week have them share the highlights of their learning with the team.

The key here is being a leader not a manager / director. Leaders have the foresight and capability to create, develop grow, and get the best from their team. Personally it's the biggest compliment people can pay me when they refer to me as a leader, it makes my day!

A key area that companies fail in doing, is providing feedback to employees of initiatives that have been worked on or will be worked on, following the employee suggestions. Many companies don’t ask for input from employees. And those that do, rarely ever give any feedback to the employees as to which suggestions were implemented, which are being considered for future implementation and which won’t be implemented and the reasons. When employees feel included in the success of the company, they’re more likely to be loyal, work better, feel valuable and respect their colleagues that put forth ideas that improved the company. If you want people to feel included, ask their opinion, act on it where possible and communicate it.

La implantación de un ERP en la compa?ía supone un cambio transversal de la misma que le afecta en todo su eje. Es muy importante que la Dirección se implique dentro del proyecto y que haya un líder de proyecto dentro de la empresa que conozca el detalle de los procesos principales y se nutra de la experiencia de todos los colaboradores de la compa?ía. Bajo mi punto de vista y experiencia los lideres naturales del proyecto de implantación de ERP deberían ser el Director Financiero o el Controller.
