Limited footprint in Edge devices will be a challenge as deploying traditional agents with heavy foot would be not feasible. Furthermore Edge devices will run different Operating Systems and form factors not available in the data center. The communication protocols would also be different.

4 How can organizations overcome the challenges of edge computing for cybersecurity?

To ensure cybersecurity in edge computing, organizations need to take a holistic and proactive approach that covers the entire data lifecycle. This includes implementing a secure security architecture that meets business objectives and data requirements, applying the principle of least privilege and the zero-trust model to limit user, device, and application access, encrypting and anonymizing data at rest and in transit, updating and patching edge devices and nodes regularly, monitoring performance and behavior, developing clear security policies and standards across the network, and educating staff and stakeholders on the risks of edge computing. Furthermore, digital signatures and certificates can be used to verify the identity and integrity of data sources and destinations.

Most of the edge computing initiatives are now being tied up with Kubernates. This is a welcome trend in terms of Securing the edge. There are many projects in Kubernates security which would also be applicable for the Kubernates environments running at the edge.
