1 What is empathy and emotional intelligence?

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, while emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and manage one's own and others' emotions. Es imposible cambiar a los demás! Partiendo de esa premisa, lo que si podemos hacer es cambiarnos a nosotros mismos. Ahora bien para poder tener prácticas socialmente responsables en las empresas y organizaciones es importante que las personas que las lideran (en principio) reconozcan: cuál es su impacto en la Sociedad, el Medio Ambiente y en lo Económico. Si bien es cierto jamás podrás "compartir lo que siente la naturaleza" y por tanto ser poco empático; así como tampoco podrás "gestionar el cambio climático. Lo que SI está en tus manos es sensibilizar a ti a tus: socios, accionistas, inversionistas, equipo de trabajo, proveedores, entre otros, así como: medir, reportar y hacerse responsable del impacto de tu empresa en tu entorno.

A wider holistic approach is developed in which the needs and expectations of all stakeholders need to be considered and addressed as far as is reasonably practicable. This in itself nurtures greater empathy and the need to develop a range of emotional intelligence traits which are as invaluable within the business as they are in the global workplace.

?Qué es más valioso el compromiso del cerdo o el aporte de la gallina? Hay una diferencia abismal entre estar comprometido y hacer un aporte. Una de las formas que puede ayudar a sensibilizar a los líderes en las organizaciones, es que participen directamente en actividades como voluntariado, que les permitan sumergirse de lleno y vivir la experiencia en primera persona de ayudar a otras personas, observando con detalle distintas realidades y tomar la decisión de: hacer como Shakira ciego, sordo, mudo e indiferente o desarrollar acciones que ayuden disminuir las brechas, construyendo puentes que permitan achicar las brechas.

Ahora bien, para que lo hagas de manera exitosa, te invito a hacer este checklist: 1 Elige un especialista para que sea la responsable de esta área de RSC (bien sea de forma interna o externa). 2 Que este especialista trace una estrategia que tome en cuenta, involucre y permita la participación de todos tus colaboradores, equipo de trabajo y Junta Directiva. 3 Comunica cuáles son las iniciativas seleccionadas, responsables, tiempos de ejecución, recursos humanos, materiales y económicos necesarios para conseguirlo y sobre todooooooo que tenga sentido con la Naturaleza de la empresa. 4 Ejecuta, mide, reporta, ajusta y vuelve a empezar el ciclo. éxito !
