How can cross-functional teams improve social impact work?

What I found helpful in a few examples of cross-functional teams is the ease of finishing a job/project once all the teams work towards the same goal.

My experience is the teams should carry different domain expertise. Say a team for social impact project on neurodiversity, the team should ideally include education professionals, data analysts, computer sciences, social media marketing, etc since data needs to be collected and analysed. Story must be told.

Social impact should not be viewed as an cost-center for a business, but instead an impact-center. If your organization is not leveraging the power of social impact to further your mission, innovation, and growth, then you're missing out. Your social impact has the power to connect and inspire employees, gain more sales, strengthen your relationship with the sector, and give you credit for the good you've achieved.

With the common goal in mind, different departments can contribute at their own pace, focusing just on the part that they excel at. Doing this improves morale and creates a relaxed and confident workspace.

My opinion on this would be to encourage people to work within their departments job responsibilities and to not pressure employees to take on different tasks.

You should approach it as the lens you view your initiatives, rather than an individual dept. If everything you do has social impact built into its DNA, you're bound to see improvements of internal and external engagement, an increase in innovation and advancements, and stronger returns overtime.

Using an impact standard is important to measure and report your impact, as well as ensure that you are maximizing your social impact investment returns. You can leverage a standard to benchmark and report your impact trends over time, as well as connect with the right programs for the impact you're seeking to achieve.

It's important to consider that often relationships with funders are seen to be burdensome or prohibitive to creating a social impact, due to the constraints that are put on impact producers (Nonprofits & Social Enterprises). This doesn't need to be the case, but instead can be a partner for good. We've seen this come forward via the Impact Genome Registry - when funders use the universal impact verification report, nonprofits don't have to create duplicative reporting and can match with new programs.
