Recognize that the “opioid epidemic” has received more attention than other substance-related health crises because it is perceived as effecting white people. The true epidemic is trauma and harmful systems more than a class of drugs. Be mindful of not perpetuating stigma toward people who use drugs. Avoid stigmatizing language such as “clean” “dirty” “addict,” etc. Be a safe person for clients to talk about their use openly with. Promote quality of life and support individual definitions of recovery. Support access to MAT.

Oftentimes the case managers are at a lost. Addiction has no demographics, it does not discriminate against qualifications , race, or age, It is a substance, hence the lack of humility to understand the effects. We have lost so many individuals from this crisis.Too many families have been destroyed from this crisis. The current system is overwhelmed and unable to produce resources and care. The government doesn’t know what to do, the powers that be have no answers to combat this crisis. There are no answer as to where we go from where we are, or a solutions to fix or eliminate it. We are in dire straits. The manufacturers continue making them, and they refuse to come up with a remedy. I hope one day in my lifetime we’ll have the answer.
