How can blockchain incentivize open science?

I remember about 5 years ago I was mining for one of the blockchains (unfortunately, I don't remember the exact name) that used crypto mining as a tool to solve various scientific problems. The idea was simple: similarly to Bitcoin mining, you use your computer power to solve a hash problem, but unlike it, in this blockchain, you were not using random numbers in the mining process, but rather calculating various DNA sequences to find treatments for incurable illnesses. I don't know if that project is still active, but I would like to see more blockchains as useful for science as this one.

This is especially important as the field of research is extremely entrenched in pre-existing traditional paradigms.
