Do a project completely on your own. When you go to the interview, admit up front that you you may not have a long record of accomplishments, but assert that your ability to work independently shows you can learn and master all aspects of software engineering starting with problem specification,moving to design, implementation, and finishing with testing.

Build, Build and build. Build your github, and create projects for fun which is functional, build profile on coding platforms like leetcode, hackerrank by solving problems(few a day), build experience by trying to get internships, contributing effort for someone else, paid projects such as from websites like peopleperhour.

Getting your first job, can start even before this step.. Preparing your portfolio projects and showing what you bring to the table I dont really believe in certificates So no need to stress about those Have a full underatanding of the behaviour of your languages and be openminded into learning more and more, the more niche and specialised you are.. the higher your market value

In my experience, having one major project is better than having multiple small projects It shows dedication and commitment In bigger projects there is also more complexity, you can then explain how your complex codebase is structured Don't hesitate to use this project in the technical interview. It might not be structured the best way since you most of the time are alone on this project, but you can explain how you would do better

I've found that every interview I take has something to learn from. Whether its a tough technical question or a behavioral situation I wasn't prepared for, it can't hurt to prepare a good answer just in case that question gets answered again next time.

Internal transfers are often preferred to having to get brand new people, so this really worked in my favour.
