How can academic policies be consistently implemented across the institution?

Firstly, policies need to have all stakeholders views including the full community, this will build trust and transparency as everyone will have a voice. Policies need to be reviewed annually. Within a school context this would be reviewed initially by the Senior Leadership Team. Next staff, parental and student surveys can be established to once again include the full educational community. Once the policies have been reviewed there MUST be a clear and consistent approach whole school where policies are the same in Primary school and Secondary School apart from perhaps an easier understanding of the language used at primary level. Finally you MUST have a full cohort of staff 'buy in' and more importantly consistency to have success.

To borrow from another educator who uses anthropology to teach life skills, Simon Sinek, the institution needs to know its why. With this North Star in place, (and recognized throughout the institution), academic policies can be implemented consistently by following its lead. If you don't know why you educate, or why your particular educational institution exists in a world of many others, then it will be difficult to create, let alone implement, academic policies. Know the why behind your institution's education goals, reinforce it and let it play a central role in how you both create and implement academic policies.

In my days, I made sure to stay informed about the best ways of doing things and learn from real-world examples. This led me to consistently update our policies, keeping them in tune with the evolving needs and expectations of our school community. It was not just about enforcing rules; I aimed to encourage an environment where everyone saw the rules as fair and helpful. Reflecting on this now, I see the positive impact of this alignment. Our academic policies were more than just written words; they had become a vital aspect of our school culture. They served as guiding principles, aiding our growth and ensuring our students receive the best education possible.

I agree but in addition to this, develop ability and backing: Academic policies should have the required means, framework, and arrangements, such as money, personnel, devices, and information. The policies should also be applied, checked, and measured using suitable instruments and techniques, such as signs, standards, reviews, or questionnaires, to ensure productivity, performance, and excellence of the policies.

Involve and listen to the main actors: In my experience as a university lecturer and scientist, the people who are most affected by the academic policies should take part in making, applying, or assessing them, using ways such as discussing, working together, or designing together, to make sure they feel responsible, dedicated, or answerable for the policies. The policies should also change, adjust, or improve according to the opinions and facts from the actors, using steps such as checking, changing, or creating, to make sure they are suitable, lasting, and outstanding.

To make sure academic rules are followed by everyone in the school, we need to apply them the same way for all students and teachers. This helps keep things fair and equal for everyone.

Policies are the path to follow and their implementation should be the priority of the of the management. CPD is one of the way to prepare the individuals for better implementation of academic Policies. These policies must be communicated and discussed with all stakeholders. Team work, continuous evaluation on their implementation and employees feedback is essential component.
