How can academic administrators better serve non-traditional students?
Non-traditional students are those who do not follow the typical path of enrolling in higher education right after high school, or who have characteristics that differ from the average student, such as age, ethnicity, income, family status, or employment. They make up a significant and growing segment of the higher education population, but they often face unique challenges and barriers that affect their academic success and satisfaction. Academic administrators, such as deans, directors, and coordinators, play a vital role in creating and implementing policies and practices that can better serve the needs and preferences of non-traditional students. In this article, we will explore some of the ways that academic administrators can enhance the quality and accessibility of higher education for non-traditional students.
