How can the 8d process help you identify quality issues?

Generally,the 5W2H method used to describe the problem.We can further develop the problem by using IS/IS NOT Method. The IS/IS NOT Method helps to separate the factors that are not the problem. This helps to narrow down the scope of the problem and focus on the problem area.

It's a systematic approach with CFT which helps. It arises at root cause by why why analysis. Detection cause, prevention cause and system cause all can be found out.

A well defined problem helps to find the actual root cause and to take the correct actions. 8D is one of the best structured and systematic approach to find the root cause and to take corrective and preventive actions along with final verification to ensure problem has been permanently solved.

Well in 8d process , it is imperative to get root cause of problem Obtain good strategies to resolve this issue as your profitability and customer satisfaction depends upon quality of Your products. So it is key factor for progress of any industry .

I always asked this question from many experts that if we adopted 5w for root cause analysis , how many whys we need to keep asking and at which why we need to stop. From few Japanese experts I have got something that was strange. Let’s discuss on this but i need to know the opinions first.

This is a critical step in the process. The permanent corrective action needs to address the Root Cause of identified in the previous step. The corrective action needs to also address the original problem statement and its complete resolution. If the corrective action does not resolve the original problem statement, an incorrect root cause may have been identified. The root cause step need to be revisited to arrive at the correct root cause.

The other effective problem solving tools are A3, DMAIC, 5w1h. 7 QC tools, 5 Why, affinity diagram etc. are few other tools which are used during different stages of problem solving, so to get the maximum benefit one should have good knowledge of these supporting tools.

I think, scope of the 8D process is sometimes stretched too far. 8D is a standardized framework to be used, from the beginning of the problem identification phase to validating the implemented solution(s) and lessons learned. The framework allows use of various tools throughout the steps including problem solving tools. 8D starts after the problem has been identified, so it's not a problem identification tool. Also, none of the steps are problem solving tools.
