As per my experience, volunteerism gives freedom to some one to contribute something to those who do not have the capacity to pay you back. You do not have a boss who frame you in a way you are framed in your hired organization. It is totally based on interest and hence the contribution is complete and with all excellence. Volunterism is some how a ministry related to religious service. For youth, volunteriseem is a taste of actual work place and can shape them for future endeavor.

Leading a team of youths on a physical volunteering program across Kenya and Canada was both rewarding and challenging. In Kenya, we faced logistical issues such as transportation and resource allocation. I worked closely with local partners to ensure everything ran smoothly, adapting plans on the fly when needed. In Canada, keeping the team motivated during intense projects required creative engagement strategies and regular morale-boosting activities. By fostering an inclusive environment, encouraging open dialogue, and leading by example, I ensured our diverse team remained united and focused on our common goals, ultimately achieving a significant positive impact in both communities.

Certainly, leadership development through volunteering is valuable, yet it can be challenging to demonstrate the significance of this experience. Therefore, it is important to establish alternative forms of recognition thinking beyond monetary or transactional compensation. For instance, in the context of a Scout jamboree or similar large-scale event, I have observed the difficulty in securing medical professionals to serve as technical supervisors or directors due to the required commitment and associated legal responsibilities. However, a simple certificate acknowledging the individual's contributions, hours dedicated, and team involvement can serve as a compelling incentive for potential volunteers.

Through volunteerism, I have come across great people with character. These have played and continue to play significant roles in my career. We grow by people. Having their hand on my back through advice, orientation and encouragement have kept me going. During one of our volunteer seminars, l had the privilege of meeting and talking with high a profile person with extensive experience. His mentorship, guidance, orientation and personal experience have been helping me a great deal.

One thing I have observed is that it can be easy to network in a volunteer setting, especially if it is a project you love. The opportunity to connect with others who feel passionate about a similar interest can link two people that normally would not meet. These connections can lead to advancements in career or even open doors in new areas. I found my current role through a volunteer connection and it was in an area I would not normally have worked.

For example, jumping into a project on a cause that's meaningful to you, where you're working with people you hardly know but share a common interest can give you the chance to be a part of a new team. Maybe in your professional life, you're an individual contributor so you normally are flying solo -- now you're not! On the other hand, maybe you're the boss in your day-to-day life. Now you've got the chance to be a role player and make really important contributions to the bigger picture -- not to mention you can see how the "other half lives."

Al finalizar las jornadas de voluntariado muchas veces escuché que las personas voluntarias decir que gracias a esa experiencia tenían una perspectiva diferente sobre la sociedad y la vida. Manifestaban que el voluntariado les permitió ver más allá y conocer otras realidades, que muchas ignoramos por estar inmersos/as en nuestros propios asuntos. No one volunteers in a specific field when they are not interested in. Taking a voluntary assignment in specific filed means one wants to display their brand to people who might be looking for it but are not able to spot it. volunteer work tells a story of who that person is and act as a signpost. Personal Branding is a how you promote yourself by showcasing experience, skills, personality and story around you with the current volunteer work.

It brings joy especially when working in rather niche fields. My advice is to never do anything you are not comfortable with and always ask for help or more training if needed. Staff are there to support you and should be open to constructive feedback. Volunteering is also a way of discovering what you do not like or wish to do and never feel you have to commit to something that is not serving you.

Creo que lo más importante a tener en cuenta al momento de iniciar una actividad de voluntariado es que requiere compromiso. No es algo que puedas iniciar y después dejar una vez que te aburra. Tienes que comprometerte a llevarlo hasta el final, no es solo una promesa a los demás, es una promesa a tu persona, una que vale todo lo del mundo ya que te permite sumar a los demás.

Here's my take on what else to consider. It's mostly to do with the corporate-led events. While corporate-led volunteering events may serve as valuable opportunities for community engagement, they should never serve as a substitute for genuine philanthropy. Choosing to do good should stem from an intrinsic desire to make a positive difference, not from external pressure or corporate mandate. Commit to volunteering because you want to, not because you feel obligated, and worse still to bolster your company's image. After all, the true measure of humanity lies not in how you appear to others, but in the sincerity of your actions and the impact you make on the world around you.
