You can take this one step further by soliciting feedback regularly. Putting yourself in a vulnerable position can be scary, but this allows you to have active ownership over the process. If we have listened deeply and we assessed honestly, we can think through areas we want to change and find a plan forward that meets our needs. If we shy away from the assessment, we may miss the opportunity to be in control of how we change.

Once you receive feedback and evaluate it, look at where you shine and where you can improve. Where you shine, be willing to mentor and share your knowledge with others. Where you have opportunities, look for those that exemplify this area. Your mentor doesn't need to be a leader or manager. It can be a peer within your line of business or out. It can be a connection at your company, another company or LinkedIn. Find someone in your network with the expertise. Instigate a mentor relationship. Ask them if they are willing to help you grow. If so, let them know what you're looking for in the connection - information, coaching, mentorship or sponsorship. It's that easy. If you need help, just ask your network.
