I have enjoyed the 35 years professional journey starting as Civil Supervisor at real estate builder immediate after completing Diploma Civil and through continuous learning reach to DH level at Indian MNC. Where in I have learned versatile aspects of Civil engineering from foreman, Skilled / Unskilled workforce, Supervisors, Operators, Site Engineers, Sr.& Middle level Engineers, Architects, Detail Engineering Consultants, vendors, Suppliers, Contractors etc. Hence, I am of firm believer that Life is a continuous learning process and feedbacks/Suggestions/ ideas and so on definitely enhance skills and upgrades on technology, work methods, risk mitigation, Maintenance Practices. 360 degree learning always beneficial as a Civil Engineer!

Civil engineering is a very broad field, and no one person will have all the answers. It is only through continual collaboration and growth that we are able to succeed and thrive in what we do. I love working in an environment where everyone is committed to personal and team growth/development. Civil engineering is an industry where if you do not keep moving forward, you will eventually get left behind, and the best way to keep moving forward is to interact with others and teach/learn from one another, this will lead to fantastic growth, and continual improvement. Go into every conversation with the goal of learning something new, and sharing knowledge of your own.

Under the heading of fostering community, I’m going to go outside the square with the following observation of civil engineers. In a pst life as an OSH Inspector I investigated incidents where temporary works collapsed and workers were harmed. Under the H&S legislation, only those employed and paid to provide a service are liable for catastrophic events. Several times leading up to harmful events engineers had walked past propping systems that were hopelessly inadequate but said nothing as they weren’t paid to. Where’s the community spirit in that behaviour? Please try to share your knowledge for the good of all.
