Yes it is always essential to distinguish the "current felt emotions" from the real desire of the client, in terms of their career. I had this month a client who consulted me and who was very annoyed with her current boss and wanted to move out asap.. When we discussed the options she had, she was prepared to move to any other job as long as it was paid the same salary or more. I went with her through a thorough "needs, likes and wants" assessment to slow down her hasted decision and to make her look at the various options opened to her in a way that was aligned with her career aspiration. After two sessions, she was much calmer and prepared to put in the right efforts to consider carefully her options and not rush everything.

To achieve your goals, you need to assess more than needs! As part of my work with clients, I use the "Who I am" exercise. This is a method I created to identify: - strengths - weaknesses - the current situation - existing needs - vision and goals There is no one size fits all. Our visions and goals may be the same, but we have different circumstances, strengths, weaknesses, and needs: we may have the same destination, but our paths may be different. The use of logical reasoning will allow you to identify all the factors that influence the actions you need to take

I teach my clients to think differently. They are the professionals and they have the privilege to choose. Once identified strengths, weakness skills and competences I encourage them to choose the best options for them where to apply for a job. Is the employer that has to meet the requirements of my clients not the other way round! Research is fundamental to identify the best options for them based on certain criteria, they found the best employers for them

Yes researching options needs to be done properly. There are many search engines, job websites, focus-groups on LinkedIn and other platforms, industry specialised websites, networking events that should be considered. Options within their existing companies should also be included. Helping the client to list all of them and consider them is an important step in helping their career transition. In some cases I advise my clients to go to relevant networking events which are attended by lots of executives, to discuss with them the satisfaction they have or not with their current roles in their companies.

Once clients understand their needs, the next step is researching options. Logical reasoning skills are crucial for this, as they help collect data on different sectors, roles, and companies. Clients should identify patterns in job requirements and evaluate how their skills align. Encourage them to critically assess the reliability of the information they find. This stage involves gathering evidence to support career decisions, similar to constructing a logical argument.

I developed a framework that guides my clients on how to find information outside and within. Part of this framework is an algorithm that help my clients to plan with ease and certainty. Plan is fundamental especially for a career abroad. You cannot operate blind, you need to know where you are going otherwise failure is behind the corner. Planning correctly helps you to reach your goals without stress, reducing mistakes, saving money and time. My recommendation is to plan always by considering all the aspects of your life, never planning focus only on one thing. Thunk holistic!

Planning is essential. Some of my clients want to move into positions but do not realise that they don't have yet all the skills required. It is for them essential to learn and try to put in practice some of those skills before applying to other roles. Many companies now accept to offer external learning to their employees. And if not, they should try to access this learning themselves. Once they get the essential skills required for a role, their confidence skyrockets and they attend interviews with ease. In some cases, there is a need to build a certain network before transitioning. In other cases, I advise clients to stay long enough in their current roles to accumulate enough tangible results before considering moving to other roles.

With a clear understanding of their needs and options, clients are ready to plan strategically. Use logical reasoning to help them sequence their actions by setting short- and long-term goals. They should consider how one position can lead to another and how additional training or experience might be beneficial. This stage involves creating a logically coherent roadmap, ensuring each step serves as a stepping stone toward their ultimate career objectives.

Encourage your client to thoroughly analyze potential challenges and uncertainties associated with their career change. This involves identifying possible obstacles, considering worst-case scenarios, and weighing the pros and cons of different options. By understanding the risks, your client can make more informed decisions, develop contingency plans, and prepare for any setbacks. This proactive approach not only mitigates potential issues but also builds their confidence in managing the transition smoothly.

Every career change comes with risks. Teach your clients to use logical reasoning to identify potential pitfalls and assess their severity. They should weigh risks against benefits, considering the likelihood of each outcome and its impact on their lives. Encourage them to prepare contingency plans for various scenarios. By evaluating risks logically, clients can make bold yet prudent decisions.

Making decisions is a pivotal part of career transitions. Guide your client to make well-informed choices by comparing the potential benefits and drawbacks of each option. Encourage them to consider their long-term goals, values, and priorities. Help them weigh the outcomes and impact of each decision on their professional and personal life. By fostering a thoughtful and systematic decision-making process, your client can move forward with clarity and confidence, ensuring that their choices align with their overall career objectives.

My goal is to guide my clients so that they can make the best decision for themselves without having any doubts and that they become naturally inclined to choose the path that is best for them. We use tools that give them an understanding of what they can achieve, what they are capable of, and what they can accomplish at a particular time. As part of the "who I am" exercise, we use a research methodology and journaling: we discuss what we found during the coaching session, and what happens then is amazing. My clients can identify their next steps naturally. Also, this increases their self-awareness and confidence

When it's time for clients to make decisions, they should use logical reasoning to synthesize the information they've gathered and apply it to their situation. They should employ deductive reasoning to draw conclusions from general labor market information and inductive reasoning to make inferences from specific experiences or data points. This step involves selecting the best course of action based on a logical evaluation of all available information.

Finally, encourage your clients to take action. Logical reasoning has provided them with a clear plan and an understanding of the consequences of their choices. They now need to implement their planned steps, monitor their progress, and make adjustments as needed. Remind them that taking action is itself a logical step in the career transition process—it's the application of their reasoning in the real world.
