I often think of this step as the opportunity to be a detective. Your goal is to uncover the facts without bias or assumption. One thing I often remind myself of here - the goal is to identify the facts so that we can work together to prevent the gaps from impacting the team's success. Identifying the gap helps you identify what elements of your communication to change (or where test new perspectives) so that you are able to communicate more effectively moving forward. This is another version of the project debrief, specifically focused on communication successes and communication gaps.

Actually, I disagree that critical thinking is needed to bridge communication gaps. Yes, to quite an extent, it is important, but not all the way. It's being simply human, understanding that humans are different, psychological analysis is as important. You do not create effective communication by communicating with everyone on the same wavelength. People respond to different waves and this is based on your intuition and intellect to transcend and understand. Tasneem

Agree. Complex jargon and technical terms often are a key cause of communication breakdown. I cannot understand why agencies and organizations are not letting go of complex, complicated jargon which can easily be done without.

Word choice can be impactful here. Communicate specific words and/or phrases that should and should NOT be included so that everyone is communicating the same message. Connect the dots for people so that they understand the impact. "We are doing abc because it leads to xyz outcome. This impacts your role specifically because...We need you to complete abc action so that..."

Executives are always worries about the perception of their team's work across organization and beyond. Consistent communication is key towards building that perception. Executives must devise a communications strategy to deliver consistent message at all levels of hierarchy. This results two-pronged benefits - a) setting up of a consistent team/project/organizational goal where all employees are working towards the same goal, and b) employees at levels understand what they are working towards...provides them with a sense of belonging and understanding that their work is being valued.
