Here's how you can use feedback to pinpoint areas for growth in your small business career.

Listen, learn and absorb all the feedback you can get. It still shocks me how many senior executives are terrified of the “Truth”! Feedback is a gift, don’t get defensive and appreciate the time and energy people are giving you to improve.

Don't ask for feedback if you are not prepared to do anything with it. I regularly survey internally and externally about what is going well, and more importantly, what isn't. Ask what your clients value and what you could be doing more of. Don't just look for feedback from happy clients. Exit interview departing team members and clients, they will give you honest feedback. Make sure to acknowledge the feedback and take steps to action/implement it. If a client comes to you, changing from their current service provider because of X or Y reason. Make sure you are not doing the same/have the same issues with your clients as they may be just as vocal to other people and not to you about their dissatisfaction.

Loving the fact that I am the 1st to contribute to analyse data on a small business question - have to say it is one of the things that many small businesses do not do and it is vital for business success and growth and for you as an individual. Businesses and people can receive feedback and if you don't currently request it from peers, staff customers You may not like what you read or hear and accept it as the present it is, take it away and work through it - some may be of no relevance and some may be gold dust or you. Do not dismiss the gold dust because it isn't what you wanted to read or hear - get some good intelligent people around you who will tell your the truth as they see it - it will help you and your business

"All about clearly defined and achievable objectives, allowing this feedback to generate relevant developments on the pathway of success." I did the above in these steps: Scanning priorities: Re-scanning all feedback, noting repetitive complaints or comments that affected me more the concentrating my focus on high-priority items. Measurable goals: Identifying concrete goals-such as striving for 20% cuts in response time in three months. Tracking progress: Tracking key metrics and re-orienting my strategies wherever deemed necessary. This kept my business focused, ensured continuous growth, and showed customers their input really mattered.

As usual, I'm compelled to add my two cents to reorder the chapters in this article. "Set Goals" should be first, and then perhaps this chapter could be renamed "REVISIT Goals." If you don't have clear goals, how do you know you even need feedback to improve anything in the first place? Also, feedback is one thing, but execution is the meat on the bone that'll satisfy your appetite. Feedback is merely the garnish on the dish if no action is taken. This is why having an accountability buddy or being in an accountability group makes things interesting when you're motivated to challenge the status quo when you're playing it safe.

"Action is the foundational key to all success." Here's how I've applied this: Taking Action: Feedback is only valuable when you act on it. After gathering input, I immediately focused on the most important areas for change whether it was improving staff skills, refining processes, or introducing new offerings. Planning & Communication: I have planned out a clear plan, making sure that all members of the team understand what is changing and how they contribute towards the success of these improvements. Effective Changes: Changes have been smooth and sustainable, with proper planning and communication involved, hence consistent growth.

"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out." Here's how I put it into practice: Monitor Progress: Once the changes are made, I establish ongoing feedback loops to verify how well the updates are doing. Using the performance indicators that we have identified, I keep track of the results carefully. Stay on Track: The periodic reviews enable me to ensure that our goals are being met while staying on course regarding customer needs. Continuous Improvement: This process also portrays the commitment towards improvement to the team and the customers, thereby keeping them motivated and engaged with it.

Pivot. That's the key in business. If you can't adjust and change with the times and the marketplace, you won't grow. It's not complicated. Don't over think it.

Take nothing personally: Remember that the feedback is based on your external activities and not on your internal reality. Correction ≠ rejection: Over the last few years, I've talked extensively on the right to be wrong or corrected. When we are not in a healthy enough place mentally or emotionally, feedback can sound like rejection or criticism. And we respond accordingly. Some leaders suck: Sometimes, we do answer to leaders and receive feedback from peers who are not empathetic and sometimes even nefarious in their roles, that's not always the case. Go to therapy/coaching: Taking the steps to heal the parts of you that respond to critique or feedback with defensiveness or deflection will make you a better human overall.
