The hardest part is humility. No one wants to be told they can improve...so don't ask. Instead, listen. Dump some of your content in AI, at 2 AM when everyone in your home is asleep. What does it whisper back? Read the comments, if any...or the abject lack thereof. Read the reviews of your book, or the snarky comments on your article or post. Take them with a tiny grain of salt. Read the market. If no one is taking the action/buying the book/hiring you to write for them, then just simply change. Try something else. And then listen again. The world will lead you in the right direction, if you are humble enough to listen.. It doesn't mean you're no good or that your idea is stupid. "There's no great writing, only great rewriting."

You musn't be emotional when receiving feedback. You should be open to feedback by evaluating and understanding all the feedback given to you by your readers or audience. You should try to understand why they gave you certain feedbacks. Once you've understood, you would be able to correct your mistakes.

There will always be those out who will unconditionally love your work and those who will unconditionally hate your work. Discerning the quality of the feedback will help you weed through nonconstructive and destructive feedback. You can read them and then move along- dwelling on them is not healthy.

You should only apply the feedback selectively. This is because if you are going to change the whole thing according to the feedback, you would be changing the way you write. You should only change the parts that are the most disliked or unwelcomed by your readers or audience. This is because you need to change it accordingly in order to be able to retain your audience. You should also change parts that don't sound good enough. For example, if according to the feedback your sentence sounds weak, you should then change it.

As an editor and book coach, I recommend the following approach to help writers refine their craft: 1. Use surveys to gather specific insights on both strengths and areas for improvement. 2. Transform qualitative feedback into quantitative data by categorizing comments (e.g., plot, character development) and assigning scores on a 1-5 scale. 3. Based on these scores, identify specific areas for enhancement, such as raising character development scores from a 3 to a 4. 4. Focus on addressing identified weaknesses in your next drafts. 5. After applying changes, collect new feedback and compare the new scores with the previous ones to assess the impact of your revisions.

You honestly can't please everyone, so don't try. Obviously if there begins to be a general consensus on a certain aspect of your writing you might want to address it, but don't chase those outlying criticisms. I, personally, also don't fold to those that wish I would address certain subjects In my childrens books. I have an underlying tone to my books that they are fun stories that let kids be kids, so if your looking for a book on the newest thing to hit social media, you won't find one of my books addressing it, but if you want fun stories that will quiet this noisy world and make them giggle, you might want to try a Jasper-n-friends book. So don't be afraid to "stay in your lane" so to speak...

Although you are changing according to the feedback, you need to still maintain your perspective. This is because this was your original purpose of writing. You shouldn't change according to what others want. Only change things that aren't good enough. You should still remain passionate about writing. It doesn't matter if negative feedbacks were given to you, it's just very usual.

There will be times where you can directly engage with your reader and audience. These are gem moments where you can ask clarifying questions on their feedback and understand their feedback more clearly. This will not only help you understand what your fans may want, but also establish a sense of community and trust amongst your readers and you.
