It depends on if you are residential or enterprise/organization. We follow the rule of the osi layer. A lot of techs use this to narrow down where the disconnect from happening.Traceroute and path ping can help you. Osi 1 is the phyisical. Are your wires and router and switches on or is it unplugged. 2 - MAC address or other devices on your network such as printers 3 - networks. Do you have a valid ip adress. 4 can you reach google? 5- Do you have internet issues or do you have a proxy issue down? 6 -presentation- Is your program getting errors or your os has a system error that conflicts with something you are getting that is not being read like a browser error or is a https conflict. If google is down that is layer 7 - the app itself.

Know when to Call the vendors or other people when you need to. None of us know everything about everything in tech and those who think they do , are lying or have no idea what they are talking about about. If you’re having issues look for patters, save the info you got and show it to the people you are asking to help with. Especially if it’s databases or other proprietary software so you both don’t waste time reinventing the wheel. Save the trace routs and pings provide the to and from. If your getting weird emails then don’t open them but save the emails to your desktop and send the email to save header information which is like a to and from on a letter. Your ego will not fix a problem.
