Transitioning from a manufacturing engineering role into an entrepreneur requires a set of skills, particularly from my experience Business Acumen, Leadership and Risk Management are the most critical. Also, there is a need to have a shift of the mindset and be able to manage not only the technical skills but soft skills as well. Persistence and resilience will need to be learned as well because entrepreneurship will often bring setbacks, failures and continuous challenges to overcome; therefore, persistence and resilience will be needed to stay focused, motivated and overcome obstacles.

The first thing you need to understand is you are no longer a manufacturing engineer. That was your old job. Now you have ten other job titles you need to master while your new enterprise gets off the ground.

As from my personal experience, market insight is crucial for a budding entrepreneur as it provides a deep understanding of industry trends, customer needs, and competitor strategies. This knowledge enables entrepreneurs to identify opportunities, make informed decisions, and tailor their products or services to meet market demands. By analyzing market data, entrepreneurs can anticipate changes, minimize risks, and create effective marketing strategies. I seen many people start their own manufacturing venture prior working as manufacturing engineers. Before starting their entrepreneurial journey the make themselves aware about market gaps, understood competitors, developed in then self informed decision-making, and marked targeted customer strategies. They also make them updated about industry trends, guide resource allocation, aided strategic planning, and studied in risk management. These insights provide essential information to seize opportunities, differentiate their business, and navigate the entrepreneurial landscape effectively.

If you want transition from a job skier to job provider than you need to learn and understand following things: 1. Basic of financial management as these a very important skill to be an entrepreneur. Most of the business fails because they have great idea and great product but there financial are in bed shap resulting unsustainable business and failure. 2. Under standing of Product Market fit and placement of product (including services). 3. Risk management and risk assessment 4. Developing product for aspirational need and not the present need. 5. Innovation and constant improvement.

I agree with all of the opinions I've read so far, but personally I think, a solid understanding of marketing and one's own personal/professional market is of the essence. You can hire other skills like accounting and regulatory compliance, but without a fundamental understanding of the market you're in, you're a ship without navigation.
