1 Understand SE

To transition into Systems Engineering (SE), you must first understand what it entails. SE is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the design, integration, and management of complex systems throughout their life cycles. It involves a systematic approach that considers both the business and technical needs of customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets all requirements. Familiarize yourself with key SE concepts such as the system life cycle , requirements engineering , system architecture , and verification and validation .

To understand Systems Engineering, you need to develop an appreciation of the Total Machine or Total Process. Simply put, you need to be able to understand the Complete Specification. All of it. Not just a schematic, whether electrical or hydraulic. You need to develop an understanding of how ALL components and subsystems operate and inter-relate. It takes time, but the rewards are worth it. A Systems Engineering exercise is the development of a Compliance Matrix and specifying how each paragraph of function will be validated. There are 4 ways to validate. Analysis, Demonstration, Similarity or Test.

I have shifted from my Mechanical Engineering domain to Systems Engineering domain. My nature of job is related to Systems Engineering and Project Management and my learning started automatically in this domain. Then I studied knowledge areas of SE and applied their concepts to my company's projects that have ensured timely scope completion and quality delivery.

This is one of the critical components because if you have not mentioned right skills in your resume or mixture of both domains, it will create hurdle for you in a longer run. Basic understanding of SE concepts will give you direction about how you have to craft your resume and how to show transition in it. Then finally, add some SE keywords to get shortlist your resume in any reputable firm.
