Turn away from your computer - Another “I see you there, but I don’t care enough to give you my sole focus.” Believe me, it can wait. Be PRESENT for them in the moment - Take the time to actually hear and acknowledge others during conversations. I understand you won’t remember every word exchanged, but when you are able to ask about an update to “X” situation(s) they disclosed or recall later a significant other/child/hobby/etc., you will be amazed at the credibility you just earned.

Reinforce your ability to recall smaller details about your connections by consistently reinforcing your "why". Why are you meeting people, developing relationships, accumulating names - what is your ultimate goal, what are your peers' goals, and how do your conversations enable them? Listening actively is the start, but reinforcing what people share with you is a fast follow that will deepen your working relationships as well.

More than consistency or keeping a certain frequency, I would say authenticity is key. When reconnecting with someone, make it clear why you do it. Perhaps you need their help or want to thank them for their support or an experience had together. Overall, and perhaps like any other relationship, keeping a professional relationship long-term depends on how you nurtured it when it began. So, see the person, not the networking opportunity. At every interaction.

In the book "The Trusted Advisor" (Maister et al., 2001) the formula for trust is given as Trust = (Credibility + Reliability + Intimacy) / Self-orientation. Studies show that Intimacy and Self-orientation are the biggest levers, as most people focus on credibility and reliability. To build trust for the long term, focus on the interest of the other first and your own interest as second, share information freely, keep the other party updated on any delays and take responsibility for them.
