Is it because that's the new buzz word on the table which you think might help you get a job and hence you want to switch or is it something you genuinely feel attracted to. To transition into UX from any field, one must first understand what User Experience actually encompasses. Secondly, one must understand the basic difference between having a product - for example a UI (User Interface), and the overall experience of the product, the UX (User Experience). Thirdly, one must create projects in a particular niche and it’s best to follow the expertise you already carry with you from your previous career or education. The best UX designers create solutions for problems in a domain they are familiar with. Fourth, develop a portfolio showcasing a variety of projects from the chosen domain.

Transitioning into UX from a different career requires a blend of learning, networking, and practical experience. Start by understanding UX principles through online courses or bootcamps. Build a portfolio by working on personal projects or volunteering for non-profits. Network with professionals through events, forums, and LinkedIn. Seek mentorship for guidance. Here are some of the steps I took to make the transition from software engineer to UX Designer. You can consider these aspects when transitioning into a UX career from another field: 1. Learn related skills Education, training, self-study, and boot camps can all help you learn the fundamentals. 3. Create your portfolio Display your design skills and problem-solving abilities in your portfolio. 4. Networking. Connect with other UX authors on social media to get course and article recommendations. 5. Apply for jobs. Once you are done with all the above mentioned steps, you may begin looking for jobs.

Assessing skills involves identifying what skills are needed, defining criteria for assessment, choosing appropriate assessment methods, evaluating performance, providing feedback, and tracking progress. This process helps gauge individuals' abilities, pinpoint areas for improvement, and support ongoing development.

Once you assess yourself and are convinced that this is the path for you where you want to spend the rest of your life working. This means you have already taken the first step in the direction. Now jot down the aspects or skills required to do this work and compare yourself where you currently stand in those respective areas. In some areas you might be pro and some you may need to hone to be able to do that work better.

It might feel very intimidating when it comes to demonstrate your experience when you don't have any. I went through the similar feelings. In my experience, studying top rated portfolios help you understand the aesthetics of what a good portfolio look like. Also, you can go through the certifications for designing portfolios which get you hired. When you are new, you portfolio might look like an inexperienced designer but it must show your skills, mindset, and learnings.

Knowing somebody or an expert who is in the UX field will lead you to something positive. You can start by LinkedIn and try to understand some experts. Try to contact them. If they have time for you, you should really be serious about the discussion you'll have with them. Do not expect them to show you the A to Z of the field but expect some deep suggestions that will really help you to move. Be also ready to follow some online events like webinars or conferences that shape the future of the design. Be ready to show yourself as someone who is willing to learn and to know more about UX. For that, you need to always stand as a person who likes to interact with the others and ready to listen more than just to talk. Here, use your empathy.

Gaining experience is not just working in a company or as a freelancer, it is also creating some projects that you personally wanted to create. The thing is that you don't just come to UX without having some ideas in your mind. Most of the time, you want to enter this field because you have some personal ideas or projects that you feel somedays. So, you are now able to make your dream come true by using UX and turn your ideas into case studies for the others to see and for you to enjoy. The thing is you need to build some skills that will help you shine when really working for a company or a client. Try also to do some projects that are in need of volunteers and some well-known apps to redesign.

Gaining hands on experience is really crucial. But its true, that experience is not gained but working at a company only. One way I did gain experience in UX UI is going to Pinterest where I had many recommendation of many UI designs created by many talented creators. I used to take inspo from them, and design somensort of trendy app UI, like health tracker, trading, food and other sort of app. Moral of the story is that gaining experience is all about yourself and what you do. To gain experience the only better way is to create your own projects, if you don't know what to create just surf the internet and find a website or app and recreate the whole UX so that you can gain experience and you can add it to the portfolio which will be recognizable. Start doing new projects with new workflows and new types of style so that you will be creative day by day, it's not only about only gaining experience it is also about being creative.

As you create solutions and gain experience, use anyone and everyone to garner feedback. This is a very iterative field and you should learn to look forward to critiques, as they can illustrate what to do next with your designs. Capture what you accomplish (along with your methodology) so you can wax accordingly during job interviews or show-and-tells. Take the time to make case study notes, portfolio pieces, and celebrate your accomplishments on social media. Letting the world know what you can do is a very real challenge and the sooner you start the better. Finally, some projects will flumox you. As a professional don't be discouraged. Letting a client know you can't do something, but can help facilitate it is still a win. And learn!

Be willing to take care of your body language: when you stand in front of people, when you use your tone during any discussion, the way you listen to your people during any meeting, and the way you use the colors of your presentations. All of that matters. Be aware that good presentations are important for your team in order to get the ideas and the solutions you want to implement in the design.
