For researchers who can (or are learning how to) code: When you want to signal to your network that you mastered research skills, a GitHub repository with some clean code in the programming language of your choice is the way to go. Your code should use some of the tools that you have learned, and it should generate nice visuals. If you write your code in the form of a jupyter notebook (works with the programming languages Julia, Python, and R), your colleagues can view your code and the visuals in their browser (on the webpage of your GitHub repository) without needing to install any additional software.

Critical interpretation is crucial. (Almost) anyone can press play on a function in Excel or R. But that just yields some number - a p value, an f statistic, an R-squared. But understanding how much you can read into the results and when a healthy dose of skepticism might be useful is super important and necessary to build confidence in your analysis. Putting too much confidence in some number or putting confidence in the wrong number can turn a good piece of research into out-right misinformation. Bergstrom and West have written a very entertaining book of case studies that aim to build critical data literacy. It's called "Calling Bullshit".
