I think focusing on ‘mobile technology’ is a bit short sighted. Folks have always been mobile. Mobile technology came in the form of, first voice services , then messaging etc, etc. Today, here we are, cars are now connected and are mobile, so are many other “things” being connected, high mobility or not. I would suggest to think about connectivity and mobility! .. not just ‘mobile technology’ . If you understand what it means to be connected and mobile, then there are lots of places/applications where that is a value! However I doubt those places will be looking for a ‘mobile technology’ person. Bridging that gap between where you are and where you could be is the real challenge, up-skilled or not.

Mobile technology professional are usually result oriented people. So, the first think to do is to be paciente. Mindulness is a way to relax, balance and focus. I think this is first. Next, as you are usual in you daily work, explore and try new technology. At work you try new mobile technology and explore new products. Now epand your knowing throw exploring gaming, IOT, etc. Additionaly develp soft skills and agile methodologies that will be as the backbone of your next you.

Technology moves do fast, that it really shouldn’t be a layoff that causes you to race to up skill. Depending on the reason for a layoff, not up skilling constantly could be a factor. Your mindset and drive is what makes you and asset for a company, so understanding trends and technology should never be only done during work hours. Reading, researching, understanding, experimenting should all be part of your daily routine. Stay on top of where things are going and become so strong that during a layoff, you’ll be the one they desperately are trying to keep to help get the company through it.

Use this time to update your resume, enhance your skill set, and explore new opportunities within the industry. Learn a new skill like flutter or react native , keep coding, stay up with technology like WWDC and the Google one conference , and just remember this industry does this all the time , ups and downs. If you stay IN THE CODE you will be fine . Companies forgot about mobile over the past two years but they will need to kick it back into high gear as soon as the AI (chatbot) craze is over.

Your network is one of the most valuable tools to have. The key is make sure you’re giving back to your network without asking for anything. If you see someone on LinkedIn needing something, see if you have a helpful solution. Don’t expect anything back for it and when the time comes and you need help, you’ll be surprised at how much people will jump to help. Be the most helpful person in the room. When you connect with someone online, don’t hit them with an ask the moment you hit connect. You’ll get nowhere.

Maintain work related learning and futuristic technology updates simultaneously. One should not only learn but also implement and collaborate in platforms via blogging, GitHub repository, etc. This makes you not only upgrade with market change but also increase potential to face challenges in any environment.

Very few do mobile well, so opportunities are available if you can demonstrate you are better than the rest. Small and agile has its place in a crowded market.
