If you are looking to stand out in the application process or excel during the intern itself I have 3 words for you (or 2 depending on how you count it). "Self-Initiated Project" Github repos, a personal blog or youtube channel, with regular and recent content documenting your passion projects is a force multiplier. Not only will it showcase your technical proficiency, your interactions and communications display your ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise way. Regular updates and recent content showcases you as a self-starter able to follow through and complete tasks unprompted. All these wins, simply doing something you love.

The difference as an intern in a remote team would be to me: - being able to easily get in contact with people independent from a technical barrier - building and maintaining easily a virtual network to be able to connect the dots - being proactive and identify work that needs to be done, despite the fact of having just a virtual setup - offer support and demonstrate your ability to go an extra mile - outline your things and your passion to manage expectation with your remote workers.

Here are some more skills required in our hyper-informed age: 1. Ability to identify valuable, authentic and quality information/data for right decision making. 2. Asking the right questions is key - so much data and info around, prior to asking anything, do your own investigation, probably the quality and level of your question will help standout during an interview which can indicate you are solving, problems in a more optimal way, 3. Data-discipline, meaning that the massive data around own work is efficiently arranged and easy to access, 4. Speed - mastery in anything you do, even if you are dealing with it for the first time (joking a bit here, but we are talking requirements here, who cares how anyone does that:))

In my experience, it can be easy to fall victim to "working alone" when working on a virtual team. Introverts who spend much of their day "head down" don't stand out in a crowd. These team members often do great things and perform at a peak but go unnoticed because they're quietly working away and not singing their praises. I encourage virtual team members to get involved in cross-team projects when possible and to share resources they may create, workflows they have developed to make their days more productive, and other "wins." By showcasing their abilities and accomplishments, they display a positive performance and can ensure they are not overlooked for promotions or career advancement opportunities.
