Main switch is to stop looking at the details of technology and start looking at the big picture, what is the impact to the bottom line and how this will impact either growth in Revenue, increase operational efficiencies with cost reductions or improve the customer experience to set your business apart from the competition. Yes you can still leverage your technical expertise but you need to change the justification of why it needs to be implemented. Seems easy but I have seen a lot of technical people to scramble to do the switch. Stop looking at the solution and more at the business impact. IT schools don't teach you those skilss therefore you will need to find a mentor to help you do the transition. Switch perspective and you will be ok

Most important in career, Leader must know their strength and weakness and always need to sharp their tools to working in any worst conditions. Whenever transition happening towards the managerial or leadership position, most important factors which required to learn the Leadership Style, which focus on people development, management and their productivity, the second important factor having excellent financial knowledge which makes the best return on the investment and productivity with good workmanship. These will be achieved with the help of good mentors, surrounded with good peoples and self learning with the failure and earning respects from the peers and colleagues.

First realise the difference between leadership, and management. “Management” is measurement and control. “Leadership” is hearts and minds. For success you need to understand and gain skills in both. Project Management skills (PMBOK, or PRINCE2 as examples) can be learned and applied. People skills, emotional intelligence (EQ), being able to hold tough conversations, lead through a touch project phase… these are the more complex skills to master moving into a non-technical senior role. Find a mentor you admire, and get them to discuss and assess your capabilities across these areas. Then together work on your development. Short term goals and regular check-ins.

Having a quality mentor, and performing mentoring with junior staff, are two critical activities for gaining perspective and capability. Some times you want a mentor who you respect and think “I want to be like that in three years time.” Other times you might want six months of mentoring on sales skills from one mentor, and six months of mentoring on public speaking from another. You do not have to stick with one mentor for your entire career! It depends on what you are seeking to learn right now. Mentoring junior staff is not only fulfilling, it forces you to think critically about your skills. Remember! The goal of you mentoring others is to help them with their journey. It is not to impress them with how good you are.

Yo recomiendo agregar en LinkedIn a personas del mismo sector y ámbito de trabajo para aprender mutuamente e incluso pueden surgir de ahí oportunidades de negocio o puestos de trabajo.
