Here's how you can showcase your value and contributions to your boss at work.

It is always best to record all of these things in a very clean and straight forward way. All facts and not bragging. You will find it helpful when they ask you to write your annual review and then they sign off on it. This becomes the only way those at the top may see or hear who you are.

We all have many successes, big and small, and if we do not track them, it is easy to lose sight of them or dismiss them as wins. Tracking them also allows you to break down the task and its outcome for others and yourself to reference.

I had to work on this before I realized what and how this could help me. When you start to align with a mission, maybe not the low level goals of a company but the mission statement of a company. Then you start to create a life of purpose.. realizing that we want to live a life of purpose and feel like we belong to something bigger than ourselves. You can see how this will move you forward in your career and life .

In my experience, setting a goal provides clear direction and fuels motivation like nothing else. There’s something incredibly satisfying for me about having a paper plan—whether it's a checklist, a paper document, or a printed chart—and watching as goals are steadily accomplished. Personally, I find great satisfaction in updating my progress, jotting down rough notes, and visually charting my success on paper. These tangible documents in turn showcase your progress, value and contributions but also serve as powerful tools to help you achieve your objectives.

When you clearly communicate your progress, it not only helps you stay motivated but also opens the door to valuable feedback and praise. Communication is a two-way street, and it’s equally important for your boss to clearly articulate the goals and expectations they have for you. Personally, I find that having a well-defined set of KPIs provides a clear target to work towards. In my opinion, it’s a mistake to assume that your boss is always aware of your efforts and contributions. I prefer to schedule periodic reviews, such as quarterly, where I can present reports that highlight my progress. This approach ensures that your value is recognised and that you remain aligned with the overall goals of the organisation.

"How can I show up for you?" is a great mentality for your team. If you cannot create a safe space for your team to with ease come and talk to you or vice versa you have a huge problem.

Aware of my own frustration that arises when people raise problems without any intention of proposing a constructive solution, I make it a priority to approach issues with a solution-oriented mindset. When searching for solutions, I believe in consulting with others to gain diverse perspectives. I understand that relying solely on my own thoughts can sometimes lead to limited solutions. By incorporating different viewpoints, I can develop more comprehensive and effective strategies. This collaborative approach is especially beneficial when implementing new systems or practices. When others are involved in the problem-solving process, they are more likely to be invested in ensuring the success of the solution.

Being a mentor should be at the top of your list, not just those below you but those all around you and above you. Because you are taking responsibility and showing leadership and owning the position.
