My perspective of the project manager is to ensure that there are no escalations, seamlessly implement sudden scope creeps, maintain calm and quiet across the project teams, ensure that almost no defects or issues post implementation. Things like waterfall, agile, iterative, etc... or hi fi technologies, templates, processes, etc.. do not matter. Successful project managers always choose the best things and they make the pathway for others.

Documenting everything does not automatically mean having compelling evidence of success. Documentation must be structured, relevant and meaningful. It must be easy to access, intuitive to locate needed piece, clear in document purpose and containing information straight to the point

Project manager acts as middleman and facilitator between team, internal and external stakeholders. You need to be aware about every details, changes and timelines that are ongoing in project. Need to have intuitive prediction what could go wrong and deliver information and possible solutions timely to make decision with stakeholders. It is tuff but same time interesting and challenging.

The role of a project manager (PM) in Agile environments is often misunderstood. While Agile methodologies emphasize self-organizing teams, the PM still plays a crucial role. In Agile, the PM acts as a facilitator, helping the team remove obstacles. This role is often shared with the Scrum Master. The PM ensures that the project's vision aligns with the stakeholders' needs. They work closely with the product owner to prioritize the backlog. The PM manages communication with external stakeholders, ensuring they are informed about the project's progress and any changes. The PM collects feedback through retrospectives and help implement changes to eliminate any risks, improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Communication is a critical component of software project management. It encompasses the exchange of information between team members, stakeholders, and clients, ensuring that everyone involved in the project is aligned and informed. Efficient communication ensures that project requirements are clearly understood. Misunderstandings or ambiguities in requirements can lead to significant rework, delays, and increased costs. I prefer every communication must be in written, that will make sure delivery team and clients to be sync and achieving the project goals. To make communication better it is suggested to have regular meetings, well documentation, use certain platforms & tool, active participation in calls and to have feedback in loops.

Whether you're talking to stakeholders or updating your team, clearly explain project goals, progress, and outcomes to highlight your leadership and management abilities, which can help you advance in your career.

In project management, clear communication isn't just a skill—it's a necessity. Once, I managed a project where our tech team and marketing team were constantly at odds. Tech jargon was Greek to marketing, and vice versa. I stepped in and became the translator, breaking down complex terms into digestible pieces for both sides. Regularly, I’d tailor updates: detailed and technical for the developers, high-level and impact-focused for marketing. This not only smoothed out the friction but also accelerated our project timeline by 20%. Master the art of clear, tailored communication. It shows leadership and ensures everyone’s on the same page, driving projects to success.

As highlighted by many professionals over the years, communication is key to every type of work. Communication should not only be clear, it should be done on time and with proper context. Communication to me also means creating an environment where people feel comfortable to share their views and in return listen while others speak. With our most sincere efforts also people may not understand our message as intended, and this means as a Project Manager this should be something we accept and be ready to adapt and explain as needed.

When doing risk management, we should also put attention on where the impact is positive, example: how to make the delivery faster while maintaining the same level of quality and cost and scope. That way, we will have some contingency in case the worst comes

Uno de los ejercicios que hacía con el inicio de un proyecto era un profundo análisis de riesgos... Esto pasaba por valorar desde riesgo país (proyectos internacionales) como riesgo cliente (posibles impagos o riesgo de quiebra), riesgos por cambio de gobierno... Podemos identificar muchos riesgos, lo importante es determinar si son riesgos controlables o no lo son. Para todos los riesgos dentro de nuestra esfera de control podemos tener iniciativas para minimizarlos. Si los riesgos que están fuera de nuestra esfera de control son muy altos ?Qué es alto? yo diría que un 30% es mejor pensar si merece la pena hacer ese negocio.

Find the biggest pessimists and most negative voices in your team and engage them with making all the things that could or are already going wrong visible. They are a great source of potential risks and will be happy with being consulted.

Everyone on a project is extremely important for junior and senior personnel. Everyone plays a role and a good Project Manager ensures that everyone is heard and respected. Making sure that people have the ability to speak freely without being afraid will keep projects moving along and most of all being successful on delivering outcomes.

One thing that helped me and my teams is the mutual understanding and trust which is the main pillar on any leadership role. Once you earn that your team as well as other stakeholders that you work with will take you seriously and will stand by you in success as well as set backs. So leadership skills play a significant role in becoming a good to great project manager.

Continuous Learning to me not only means - upskilling on the move both technically and with respect to domain but also trying to continually learn the changing dimensions in the project - may be scope, cost or time of project. In a recent project learning the changing needs of customers on scope not only meant need of addressing new scope elements but also descoping some scope elements which were no longer needed. Of course, it goes without saying , a need of change control to adjust the change in scope. It really helped gain customer trust and happiness and paved way for longer partnership.

In my personal experience continuous learning aka continuous improvement or in agile terms having Kaizen attitude definitely will not only just highlight your skills but your ability to pivot in decision making when needed. Like in the old story "Who Moved my Cheese - by Spencer Johnson" continuous learning and keeping upto date will prepare you look change in an all different perspective. Started with the traditional waterfall way of working getting into the Agile and Product Mindset of understanding the why behind anything definitely helped me in enjoying what I do and at the sametime keeps things transparent for others to see my progress.

As a Project Manager, we do not often pick our projects or (matrixed) team members who are assigned. However, we do have control over being deliberate when we drive change, resolve issues and deliver consistent results. These elements demonstrate a leader's ability to be strategic and impactful to the things that truly matter. Here's a tip for ALL program and project managers, new and well-experienced, use a tool that is not often referenced these days... dun, Dun, DUN!!! The Project Management Plan! This templated plan has everything! The proverbial who, what, when, where, why and how. No battlefield triage required! The best part is you deliver it on day one to your stakeholders! Execute, rinse and repeat. Success breeds success!

Yes, celebrate the effort and hard work you and the project team put into making things happen. However, first communicate the strategic impact so leaders and stakeholders understand how the project made a difference. Additionally, communicate the leadership attributes that contributed to the project success. For example, highlight cross-functional collaboration, high psychological safety, or other human factors that contributed to the success of the project.

Here is what else to consider. 1. Identify what is important to the company leadership in delivery. 2. The KPIs the leadership considers when categorizing a project as successful. 3. Maintain a metric board to manage and track KPIs accordingly. 4. Think about the improvements you can bring rather than settling with what is already there. 5. Identify ways to create a niche for you and offer the confidence to your leadership that if you are there, everything will be taken care of.
