An important aspect of visibility is being more vocal about your work and changes. When I coach leaders I tell them to not only work on improving as leaders but mention it every time you are doing it to gain more visibility and create the perceptions that work better for you. For example, instead of just voicing more your ideas in meetings as you work on your assertiveness, you can add: "in the past I would have not mentioned this, but I am working on being more assertive and I want to share this idea with you". That will guarantee that if we ask someone is he/she improving assertiveness? They will say "of course, he/she mentions every time he/she is working on that". Help people create perceptions about you by being more vocal.

All of the above are important and must haves too. However, key to any promotion will be exhibiting your versatility, walking the extra mile, showing your additional capabilities by raising your hand and taking on more projects. It is about visibility yet coupled with delivering results.
