One of the most critical gaps that IT staff still faces is off site users. Cloud options or SaaS has helped for pieces but there is always that server or application requiring remote desktop or open ports to access. VPN is a critical layer to help combat these firewall holes. With VPN setup correctly with two factor and other measures it can be a crucial asset to any organization. That being said VPN is not the end game for how everything should be accessed and can lead to holes and should be used when needed. Security is an onion protectors are always trying to add and protect layers and bad actors are always trying to peel them away.

This should be an easy lights out win for IT at this point but for some reason it is still a battle. If you haven't been hit with an issue it is only when. You can only lean on stuides and proof to get the money to support the organization. That being said if you were able to get two factor setup how do you battle the click for no reason fatigue. Everyone's job is always important to them and they may not take the time to consider hacks how do we bridge the gap? Ideas to follow...

This one is pretty cut and dry if you connect to an open network everyone will know your information. Never ever connect to wifi without a complex key or in the least a vpn. Basically never connect to anything you don't control. I have heard countless hack scenarios of folks logging into a hotel or airport network that the SSID and password are the same. War-driving is real but not in the same aspect.
