This is really the key. If you don't tailor your resume, your resume will get eliminated by computers before they ever make it to a person to review. The computer uses Applicant Tracking Software (ATS) to compare your resume to the job requirements. Only resumes that pass the ATS make it to a human review. So, make sure every application has a unique resume. Do this by: 1. Having a database of resume components. 2. Analyzing the job description. 3. Using components from your database to match the job description. 4. Use the language the company uses in the job description. This process will help you tailor your resume so it gets past the computer and into the hands of a human.

When planning for a format change of the resume after being fired, make sure to concentrate on the gaps. Enumerate any activity that you were able to work on during the gap, including freelance work, volunteerism, or education. If these are job experiences, then arrange them neatly under a suitable heading. To do so, focus on skills and accomplishments from these activities that can be applied in your targeted position. For example, if you had a layoff in your working experience, then, I engaged in volunteer work on digital marketing which I included under the professional development. Remember to always format your resume in such a way that you explain how these experiences still make you relevant in the market.
