I think first to upgrade our own knowledge, acknowledge customers queries, take ownership of every case and satisfied to customers. This is the only key to promote ourselves from junior level to be a good leader

To make progress we must be willing to learn in various ways: training, studying, or asking qualified persons. 1. During the import/export application process, it must comply with regulations 2. When carrying out custom clearance, you must follow the applicable rules and comply with the format used.

Coming from an ICT background, being in Supply Chain was a major shift. Surprisingly enough ICT operations and Supply Chain are not too different. Process flow is very similar so understanding what to do was straightforward. There were new concepts and words that I then had to learn and study. Being a worldwide trade, it was important to know different aspects of trade for different countries, such customs procedures, cross border regulations, vehicle or commodity requirements or even learning a new language in my case. All of it would be a foundation to help me understand the sector and expand my knowledge. One thing it has been from day one till now, is it has been a continuous learning process that never ends even now after 10 years.

To upgrade Junior to a leadership following aspects needed ? Need to get good knowledge about compliance requirements for the different region. ? Self upgradation by attending webinar, reading articles and by obtaining Certifications including Logistics course as well as seek mentorship. ? Updated with the current trend of Import/Export flow and able to adapt ? Technically skills needs to be developed by learning relevant software which is useful in similar field ? Proactively identification of problems and resolving skills ? Building a networking ? Willpower to succeed above all ??

I wouldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for my first Operations Manager and the General manager. Explaining the business, the goals they wanted to achieve and processes to ensure timely movement of goods helped me quickly get to grip with the business. Additional mentoring from Executive management and other managers from the sister companies as well as clients showed other scopes and views of the business, I would have never thought of. In turn they advised me to share what I know to others. I would say that in anything you must be a sponge and soak up as much knowledge from those before and be willing to part with information to others. The more knowledgeable people are the easier to resolve challenges and overcome obstacles in sector.

I had the great opportunity to work with many different people in Import/Export Operations: Fleet Operations and Movements of Goods, Warehouse Operations, Port Operations and Authorities, Transit and Import Clearance and Customs and other stakeholders. Each entity required an understanding of their needs and tailormade solutions to their various challenges. At some point I was part of a taskforce to try and improve Cross Border clearance with the Revenue Authority for a neighboring country. All of this gave me Indepth knowledge of supply chain processes and be in a position to offer the best service to clients. I would say, engage, meet, learn even if it's out of the scope of your department. You never know who may need your expertise.
