Emotional intelligence is key to any startup's success, without it your team would crumble beneath the pressure that surrounds the startup. You can consider emotional intelligence as the foundation in which any team member, regardless of their position, can express their feelings and recognize others. We are not robots, we have feelings, expressing them to others and using active listening when others express their emotions will allow us to become a stronger team that can overcome obstacles, be considered one & go forward. One of my previous Engineers told me that one can cross the goal line faster, together as a team we can go further. We as leaders have to recognize & use emotional intelligence's potential always.

A conflict will arise for 2 or more persons regarding a specific idea. What I do is to provide a safe space in which they can talk about what's troubling them, without judgment and using active listening at all times. I usually apply 4X listening, and 1X talking by asking questions. When all parties have stopped expressing what's on their mind, I began being an arbitrator, one that can find a solution for all parties, being unbiased and adding comments, to find a solution to these conflicts. From there, we all can reach to agreement to settle this.

I have a philosophy with my team. "Fail often, fail smart". That way I'm more connected with them because we are all entitled to have failures as we grow up in a company regardless of the position we have. After they have done a failure, we talk about it. I don't reprimand them, because everything can have a solution. Timing is the essence here, looking for a solution that can solve the problem together, will allow them to know they are not alone in this. I want them to feel that I can reciprocate totally, I have always open and understanding communication at all times.
