Here's how you can prepare your team for any emergency situation effectively.

To effectively prepare a team for an emergency situation, I believe that training is probably the most critical. Training allows you to observe and evaluate so many different components. A training environment will allow you to see what your team is capable of in the most controlled environments, facilitates the assessment and readiness of equipment, whether you have the right team members tasked with specific duties, whether proper planning/communication is already in place and if not, what can be fixed. Training will inherently allow a team to be able to evaluate and address issues/concerns ahead of an event, which will lead to proper planning and communication. During an emergency situation, you will always revert back to your training.

You will respond the way you practice. If you effectively lead your team to meet purposefully, build communication, and train together consistently, they will respond accordingly. Learn from past mistakes to build and implement best practices. There is no guarantee of absolute success, but your team will arrive prepared and equipped to face the emergency.

You can’t plan for everything; but everything that has a plan can help reduce, limit or prevent risks. Knowing what your risks are helps create a plan to be able to prepare for.

You need to first identify the risks relevant to your company in order to move to the next step and plan effectively. After Identifying the risks associated i would suggest making a tier list identifying most hazardous to the business to least. additionally how likely each is to actually happen.

Emergency response plans are vital. They allow a uniform approach to addressing emergent situations. Plans almost always fail due to lack of resources. Part of effective planning is building relationships. Beneficial relationships begin with need. Evaluate what you will need but do not have and seek out an entity that possesses what you foresee a need for. Address scarcity of resources through team building an MAGs.

Planning ahead is a bulk of the work in emergency management. If the plans are organized and streamlined you will have an easier resolution of the problem. You need to compare and contrast multiple perspectives without position discrimination. In emergency management planning every perspective is important because each problem effects different positions differently.

This begins with?thinking about your daily activities, the people you care for or who rely on you, and how a disaster would change the way you get things done. Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, Recovery, Prevention

Planning is helpful as proper Planning can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Planning helps to know what to do in the event of an eventual emergency, where to seek shelter, exit routes, mustard points, resources available for use and additional needs, level of understanding of personnel and prepare for routine drills. Emergency planning also encourages interaction between cultural institutions and the larger emergency management community during the planning process to build better understanding and stronger relationships. Also planning helps to reduce stress levels by reducing the risk of last-minute panic and allowing individuals to allocate their time effectively.

I think we should discuss which scenario I am going to choose, as there are many options available. My decision will depend on the result of my risk assessment and the task with the highest risk rating. This will be the first task I will tackle.

Training is a massive component of fast and reliable resolution of an emergency. Coming from an EOD background I can further attest to this. When everything that can go wrong goes wrong, you will fall back on that training. It will show if you haven't been training.

Training gives an opportunity to not only access if you should do a certain strategy or tactic, but also if you physically CAN. What looks good on paper we learn we cannot do effectively in real time when we train. Physical is just as important as the mental preparation.

Drills are essentially for proper emergency preparedness. It identifies weaknesses and strong holds of every team member and where to improve on. Drills should be scheduled regularly.

This, in reality, is part of planning ahead. If you don't have the equipment to resolve a problem then you failed planning ahead and training regularly. Realizing this at the time of a response is to late.

Training often shows us whether or not we have the equipment and specialized personnel to complete a task. It allows us to take account of our resources and the things that we need to obtain in order to effectively achieve the goal.

Having the right equipment is essentially for emergency management. Also being able to use them and maintain these equipment are important. Equipment for specific disasters should be available and located where there can be accessed. Regular training should be carried out on how to use these equipment to avoid confusions

Do not try to be clever; instead, be clear and simple. Communication is essential in all crises and daily tasks. If you want to appear intelligent because you graduated from a well-known high school, you will hit the wall.

Communicating clearly is extremely important when things go wrong. A major component of this is understanding the ins and outs of your plan and training. Additionally stress management, take a deep breath and think about what you are saying.

Communication skills is something we often lack in emergency preparedness. We expect those who are already in the field to understand what it means to achieve a goal and the things that are needed . And unless expectations are set, everyone is freelancing – and freelancing is dangerous. We have to have a collective goal in mind and a uniform way to achieve that goal.

Proper communication is key during an emergency. it is essential to establish a clear and reliable communication system and technique for the team . The communication system helps to know the line of reportage, to disseminate information quickly and effectively to your team members and others. This can be in the form of posters/ signage, use of radios, alarms, pagers etc..also make provisions for alternative means when one fails. Make sure every team member knows their roles and communicate effectively and clearly and avoid confusion or conflicting information during an emergency.

Emergency preparedness needs to supported by the executive, otherwise chaos will prevail, despite the best intent of those charged with resilience roles.

The most valuable lessons are learned through failure. It is preferable for these failures to occur in a training environment where little if any risk exists. Effective AARs allow any\all training participants to voice concerns, observations and ideas. Do not get stuck on qualifications and education. Everyone has a valid point of reference in an emergency situation.

After action is an important part of the process in emergency prepared. After all of the training is complete, we need to sit down with others and assess honestly the effectiveness of the practice. Just being told that we do well is not enough. There are always ways to do things betterand different according to the situation.
