Debes identificar lo que necesitas y lo que deseas, muchas veces estos son dos caminos diferentes. Ahora, una vez identificado puedes encaminarte en lo que realmente necesitas aprender para dominar en mayor medidad tus responsabilidades como profesional y equilibrarlo con lo que deseas aprender y hacerlo un pasatiempo. Por ejemplo, eres electricista y necesitas aprender de instalaciones de alta tensión pero deseas aprender a pintar, debes evaluar lo que necesitas y lo que deseas. A vecer puedeser complejo identificar tan fáclmente lo que necesitas y lo que deseas. Lo importante es aprender a definir prioridades y alcances de tus objetivos.

Everyone everywhere has skill gaps. Address them and you are on a path of success. Ignore them and stagnate. And yes, there a re plenty of people that are happy where they are. They are not reading this. Do you like where you are working? Great, what skills is you company lacking in the area you work in or want to work in? Learn those to be of more value to your employer. You really want to leave your company and need to know what skills are valued in the market; look at job postings in your field, what are they looking for? Do you have that skill? No? Learn it. You have all those hard skills? Great, how are your personal relationships at work? They probably reflect your personal relationships out side of work. Level up your soft skills.

Having been an IT headhunter for three decades brought home hard how our increasingly digital universe changes it seems weekly. You are out of college and entering the world of work, and I suggest that you get humble quick, you don't know as much as you think and you know more than your boss thinks you do. You are experienced, you are good at what you do, you still have skill gaps, we all do, and I am grateful for something new to learn. Talk over with your direct supervisor or if you are in a company with real open doors, ask the person in charge of everything, they will most likely know exactly what they want you to learn. Is that what you want to learn. It is easy to note a skill I need to learn. Starting out is difficult? Too bad.

Ask folks with the skill you want to learn how they did it. Guess which tool to use and hope for the best. Ask the people you trust the most in a business setting for guidance. I have found that using multiple methods of learning a new skill, so YouTube, on-line course, workshops, actual classes, in person, not on line has been helpful. Create a Learning Timeline: Develop a timeline for acquiring and refining skills. 8. Gather Learning Resources: Compile a list of resources to aid your learning and improvement.
