Having the ability to track the metrics and ROI of fundraising strategies is incredibly important in determining where dollars are best spent. Without accurate data, you are throwing confetti in the wind and wasting valuable dollars on methods that are not proven to be effective.

The area of gathering data is undergoing the biggest changes in the fundraising process. One of the big issues in the past is finding out who has “capacity“. Thanks to generative, AI and many smart software packages, this task has been simplified and improved tremendously. I encourage you to look for the best tools and incorporate those so your team can be much more efficient and effectivein finding and nurturing major donors.

Measure everything and study the results. We can always improve and our analytics are the open window to our weak spots and stellar moments. Most importantly, never forget to thank donors as any financial momentum is not something great a fundraiser accomplished, but the generosity of real people contributing to what they believe matters.

It is important to analyse results of your impact both at qualitative & quantative levels. This will give a better picture of what has been achieved and what hasn't. For example making water accessible for rural women who walk long distances to fetch water from the village river would save time spent on covering long distances to the river daily that would be otherwise spent on other productive engagements but will lose on their daily interaction & sharing of their stories of life and communal built in solutions to life challenges they face in the village.

A process I don't see enough from people running email campaigns is going back through old messages, categorizing them by type of content, tone, point of view, call to action, other framing traits, and then creating new meta data about email list based on who reacted positively (opened, clicked-through, converted). Your messages are an experiment - they help you learn about your list - and can used to hone and segment your email list. AI can help you mine your message content. Then it's just a cycle of updating the email system with new insights about who responds to what.

To understand how well fundraising is working, you need to set clear goals, use easy to measure targets, keep track of important data regularly, study the results carefully and change strategy if needed. Also, ask people involved for their thoughts and be ready to make changes based on what you learn.

Engaging donors / stakeholders is a crucial aspect of fundraising which involves building & maintaining relationships. They include individuals/companies that support your mission and values. Regular & transparent communication through phone/email, newsletters, social media & personal meetings which provide opportunities for recognition & acknowledgment of donors through thank-you notes & public recognition. Inviting donors and stakeholders to participate in events and decision-making processes helps you gain valuable feedback to help improve your campaigns effectiveness. Engaged donors who feel a sense of ownership & connection to the mission are more likely to increase their contributions & more inclined to give generously & regularly.

In evaluating fundraising impact, treating stakeholders as partners is crucial. Offer them opportunities to contribute in ways aligned with their preferences. Engage with donors, volunteers, staff, and beneficiaries to gather diverse feedback and insights. This fosters a sense of community and collaboration, enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of fundraising practices. Empowering stakeholders to choose how they contribute strengthens relationships and builds a shared commitment to achieving fundraising goals.

Be genuine when connecting with stakeholders. Listen to what they share, take some notes, and reiterate points that correspond with your organization’s mission. It can be obvious if you’re not present in the conversation and will not bring the results you need.

Continuous improvement is vital to keep stakeholders engaged and showcase innovation. Treat impact evaluation as an ongoing process, not a one-time task. Regularly analyze data and campaign performance against goals. Stay agile and responsive, willing to try new approaches while being ready to end ineffective strategies swiftly. Fundraising is very challenges. Non profit, start up, profit organization struggles with day after day. It can become very challenging for a non profit to give clear message to the audience especially to explain the purpose of fundraising. We should reflect continously in order to focus on storytelling as well. It's proven that peopel will be morr encouraged to give when they know tjey are supporting a worthwhile cause. Having a true story wiil inspire people to remain with our organization in tje future.

Generate Dashboards What I have found most useful recently is to have the data generated, analyzed and presented on dashboard. This helps to capture just on a glance the key matrixes and their performance and the impact of the effort I am making. Key dashboard can be generated from your campaign tools like your gift range chart, which you can generate real-time from all your funding platforms

Use multiple evaluation methods: Employ a combination of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. Quantitative methods, such as surveys and financial analysis, can provide numerical data, while qualitative methods, such as interviews and case studies, can offer deeper insights. Consider external factors: Take into account external factors that may influence the impact of your fundraising activities. Economic conditions, political changes, and social trends can all affect fundraising outcomes. Try to isolate the impact of your activities from these external factors as much as possible.

Create goal trackers for your team. Allow your staff and volunteers to celebrate the gradual results and see the gaps where they can personal drive impact. Monthly data reviews allow annual goals to be more attainable.
