An internship without challenges is like a sailboat in a marina; going nowhere. You can't become a Captain without leaving the dock. I recommend chasing challenges, get exposed to as many crises as possible, soak up the stress, tension, complexity of self-interests, differing views, debates, resolutions and results. Internships are called ships for a reason. Enjoy the journey.

Having hired many many interns over the years, and building 2 startups, my take: 1. A startup is dynamic, be prepared to work. 2. Be prepared to work smart. 3. What is smart? It means having a problem-solving approach. 4. Why does problem-solving matter? 5. It matters because every day the founders/leaders/decision makers are faced with problems that need solutions! 6. Seek out the people that you can learn from, make yourself available to them. 7. Getting your hands dirty in operational tasks is important! 8. Why? It helps you collect data points for better decision making! 9. You'll fail, yes, but you'll also succeed. 10. Failure is getting an undesired result, but you tried, you learnt! Overall have fun & learn!

Failure is harsh but it’s the best thing that can happen to you. Yes, you read that right. The path in and out of failure will lead you to some of the deepest discussions you’ll have with yourself about who you want to be and what you want to bring to the world. Some of the people I admire most have also lost the most in their time as entrepreneurs. But it’s made them stronger, more focused, and more resilient. I count myself lucky to have failed and built myself up again many times in my life.

Failure is never an easy or comforting scenario. When it happens all people tend to deeply examine their actions emerging to realize that yes, your na?veté may have been a factor. But this is a failure of execution not character. Reaching deeply into your personal culture you will find the strength and the resilience , not only to endure, but thrive. Don’t hang onto the past- don’t look back- you aren’t going that way!

However, it's important to remember that someone else's journey doesn’t guarantee the same outcome for yours. Their path is just an experience to reflect on and learn from, but you must carve your own path to reach your goals.

Seeking mentorship goes for all challenges in life. A challenge is a challenge because you’re not yet at a level to be able to handle it easily, but growing through challenges is how you level up. It only then makes sense to seek perspective and advice from people who are at that level and have walked the path before you and came out successfully. I can’t stress enough to be careful who you take advice from. Many people want to offer their opinion, qualify it. Ad astra!
