Technology is wonderful. I had the advantage of working as a career coach before it really took off, as well as for years afer. But make sure it's a tool, not in charge of your job search. Not tailoring your resume is one of the biggest mistakes I see job seekers making. If you have a generic resume that you’re blasting out to employers, there is a high likelihood that you will hear back way less on applications than if you have a tailored resume. You need to be as specific as possible on who you for that specific role. It doesn’t mean you need to completely start fresh with a new resume for every application, but it makes a huge difference to change some keywords!

A strategy that's been incredibly effective for me is incorporating direct quotes or key achievements into my targeted CVs (LinkedIn recommendations are a great storage place for these). In my experience, your chances of landing your next job increase substantially when speaking with actual humans and not solely relying on technology to get you that interview. Connecting with the right people in your network is key. It takes effort and courage to step out of your comfort zone, but from the results I’ve seen for others and also experienced first hand, it’s so worth it!

Its very easy to hide under the convenience of technology and applying for jobs online and assume that your job search is going well. In a job search, magic happens when people meet. So, instead of focusing on how making applications you applied to or even vanity metrics of like/ comments on your LinkedIn posts, focus on how many "actual conversations" have you had for your job search.

Your success rate through online applications is only 1-2%. Going through networking and referrals improves that chance drastically.

It is important to understand that platforms are a tool and not the main focus of your job search. Human connection has never been more important or more powerful in a world where social media has taken over. People are longing for a deeper connection to themselves and others.
