Introducing the key responsibilities of one's library to library interns is rewarding and exposes those interns to your type of library. One of the best things to do is to schedule time for the intern to observe the various aspects of what your library has to offer. Ensure that all areas are covered so that the intern gets a good overview of the key responsibilities. If possible, have a project for the intern, that can be completed within the time frame that they are with your library. The experience is invaluable to the interns, as not only will they have a good idea of what you do, but suddenly, all the theory they've learned about in the classroom will start to make sense and the puzzle pieces will fall into place.

Lo primero que haría sería crear un manual o guía con las tareas básicas que va a tener que realizar. De forma, que cuando llegue a su puesto solo tendrá que mirar el documento. Como becario hay que ofrecer tareas que no sean monótonas y confiar en él. Sin embargo, primero sería mejor que se dedicara a gestiones menos directas con el usuario (catalogación, escaneo de documentació, y colocación) Después estaría delante del profesional para mostrarle cómo hay que desenvolverse. Y una vez que ha visto cómo hemos atendido al usuario dejarle que él lleve a cabo tareas de préstamo y recomendaciones.

As a Library Assistant for the past three years, I have noticed that one of the most important responsibilities that Librarians and Library staff have involves our day to day interactions with the people from our community. Cataloging, records management, and organization are crucial, but they are only half of the total picture. When I assist at the front reference desk, I spend a lot of time helping people access the internet, print important documents, and understand what they can access with their library membership. I may also find myself listening to, and supporting, someone who is having a hard time. As an intern, take note of how the Library staff engage with the public. Libraries employ extraordinary people.

A must for libraries offering digital collections is to provide patrons with an easy to find guide or pathfinder on how to make best use of these digital subscriptions. There is no point subscribing to premium digital content unless there is also effective communication on how to firstly access the digital resources and then begin to implement the best search strategies.
