Know your data better than the customer & understand the customer challenge or ask at a deeper level 2. Understand the account and penetrate it well to know how the customer works, who are the key decision makers, what KPIs are most important to different stakeholders within the customer’s organisation 3. Do the homework on the value that they bring to the table, pre-align their mgmt on scenario planning and recommended options and be align the framework within which they have the freedom to make decisions.

A relaxed smile on your face will calm you as you think about why this person is so worked up. They may be justified, or have a miserable personal life, or just got yelled at by their boss. Unfortunately, they are embedded in our professional process, and that will not change. I have wasted countless hours on email chains or replies that are irrelevant. In fact, I have had to exhibit SELF-CONTROL to not type a message like, "WHY ARE YOU WASTING MY TIME!!!!!!?", or "You do not have to thank me for every informative email.", or the worst, the reply to all senders! Funny as this may seem, the tone I felt could be transferred to the person reading the email which could cause internal conflicts/hard feelings. Best practice is to keep it professional & emotion free!

Difficult situations also inspire innovation and resourcefulness. You stand to learn a lot about your strengths, and what you can do better.

I always ask myself why i felt pressured and stressed. Could i have avoided the situation ? Did i tell the other person what impact his decision had on me ? This is off course very difficult but using the techniques of non agressive communication works fine.

Definately you need to reflect and dissect the event. This will help you understand what just happened and evaluate your response and its effectiveness. It allows you to understand how the customer received your contribution to have some measure of the effectiveness.
