I am sure by now you have heard the IoT (Internet of things) yes, where all and sundry is connected by a network or sensor somewhere, and all you have to do is check the BMS or tech that you use and you will be able to see at a glance what is going on in your buildings, power usage, water usage, how are your pumps running etc, BUT, I warn you, do not think that the tech will take the place of a good old physical inspection of your site, the tech is not all knowing.

Rushing toward leadership roles is common mistake in the beginning of FM career, while staying for too long in technical roles is also a mistake. You need to well plan timing to shift toward leadership role to avoid falling in position you are not prepared for. When this is done this, then you develop a plan. What is it you need to attain that goal you have decided on? Also is there a chance of taking on other roles within the company to add to your FM role. This would broaden your knowledge base as well. It is important to know yourself and your abilities, today. Be honest with yourself. Are you capable of the next step right now or what do you need to be better prepared. No one is completely ready for the next step but being as prepared as possible will keep you from failing when you do make that step
