The most beautiful thing I have learned in my career as a freelance translator is that we should create our own values and principles. I believe that you can attract more clients with low prices, but it is difficult to say how many good clients you will attract. On the other hand, good translators always prioritize good clients. Remember, working with those who do not value your work will actually diminish your brand value. Move forward by sharpening your skills and never stop learning. Keep a few clients, but provide excellent service, because translation is an art that is not for everyone.

I have found that the more niche I have become, the higher I am able to earn. I will admit there aren't always huge amounts of my specialism available for translation - but this doesn't stop me taking less specialised work during these times. Don't be afraid to charge high prices. I recently paid ￡210 for a dentist appointment and polish and the dentist didn't apologise or offer to lower their rates. Remember - you are as qualified as a dentist.

Being a freelance translator is both a blessing and sometimes a curse. It is a blessing since it means you get to be your own boss and you have time on your hands to work smoothly and deliver exactly what the client wants if not even more. It is a curse since it is challenging to convince someone why your service is better even if it costs more than someone else's. The good thing in all of this is that you get to discover new languages, cultures and when a certain term is used and how it changes according to context and position in a sentence. It is magnificent how one word in any language changes meaning according to its context and position. Translation is indeed a work of art and you learn more everyday. It is constant and evolving.
