In my experience, I have met a lot of people who truly put the "human" in "human resources". We are essentially role models for the rest of the company, but we have to act human. By becoming a member of SHRM (for example), you also are able to get connected to your local SHRM Chapter! I have met some amazing professionals and am constantly in awe of their knowledge, their networks, and willingness to share. I am fortunate to serve on a community relations committee as well and have been able to expand the scope of my skills while also making a significant impact on others through our volunteer work. Our SHRM chapter has a monthly in-person meeting and they bring in great speakers to not only help us stay up with current trends, but also participate in reflective conversations about our own professional journey.
