Work with your team. Make sure they know you won’t ask them to do something you yourself haven’t done or won’t do. Always be part of the team.

This is a trap that I’ve fallen into myself. I have historically believed that the “paycheck” was all the recognition needed. That is completely not true. Leaders have to know the persons well enough to know which ones respond to which recognition. Some will require heavy recognition while that makes others uncomfortable. Get to know each one and provide recognition appropriately.

Recognize when someone saved some downtime by doing some required maintenance without having the work assigned to them. Too often it was said that maintenance was not productive.

One thing that I have found that works in recognition no matter if it is a small. Your team will love to hear praise from management on a good job. It will make them feel good and I have leaned over the years is that a happy staff will work harder and hits the there goals and the team will all work together and be successful.

One practice I've found helpful in building team spirit is an elementary approach, "Lighten Up"! Work inherently comes with enough stress, so it is necessary as a leader to allow moments to decompress. For me, this is having many break out sessions where we talk about anything that comes to mind, share moments of laughter, and occupy morning with coffee and sweet bread!

Make sure to connect with people make sure that you know them inside out. Never treat them the same way. You have to show respect and make sure you value them. Keep a good line of communication always

What I have leaned over the years is when you implemente a good work environment and promote positive moral and team work. Then the team will be more productive and will work together as a team and you will see goals hit and a great place to work and less turnover.
