Well defined roles of respective teams or members will definitely help a lot and it is very important element to assign the right job to the right person, each of everyone will take solid responsibility without waiting or blaming others when there is issue happening. It’s also saving time and cost as it minimizes doing duplicate tasks or conflicts with others.

A part of role definition is done by HR automatically, based on demonstrated skills. As a manager, one cannot make intelligent decisions if there is chaos and confusion in task execution. Apart from skills, each team member is gaining experience every day while being part of the project. A manager should capitalize on their daily activities and assign responsibilities which the team member has proven capable of. They should record the hurdles faced in their assigned role using a team issue tracker & discuss them during sprints. Roles assign accountability, but team work has no limitations, if the team is practically constructed. Having the right tools such as encrypted email, calendar, planners, lists support help the manager assign roles.

"Vision" is not just a buzzword for senior management to throw about. Each manager has a chance of crafting his own vision based on what he has/can accomplish. Passionate managers take it a leap ahead by aligning their vision to the business's & share this with their team. A shared vision creates a strong bond between what we do and what we think we should do. It provides a sense of belonging & well-being to all the team members. A shared view of what a team should do over the year automatically tells us the value each member brings to the team, and how as a manager you can bring out the visionary inside him. A smart team will not only deliver goals, these will be aligned with their vision & further connect with the top management's vision.

Keeping an experienced smart & hard-working team together is a delight for any manager. If they can communicate well and understand a delivery process, apart from being technically up-to-date, the team almost becomes a brand. Such a team should be honed & nurtured every day. Their voices should be heard & what they say considered valuable & actionable, as part of collective team culture. Team culture encompasses employees' opinions on leave policies, tough tasks, overtime, performance reviews, training, technology breakthroughs, patent discovery, R&D opportunities, benefits, variable pay, etc. As long as work days are exciting & their voice is heard, the team will feel motivated to work harder & smarter, creating a more valuable product.

Nip I/You arguments in the bud. Mean your leadership. Walk the talk. Ego hassles do not deserve your time. Tell them to work it out in their "anger room". Bring complimentary chaps together. Make innovation a point of competition which only those deserving will get a chance to work on. It should be worth their while to fight for. Celebrate conflict that is +ve, encouraging, competitive, liberating, team-building. Assign listening time & stick to time limits given to each. Some may have more to say, listen to them at least once. Identify those who are ready to bring conflict to the forefront first. These are "gold", they will ideate well. Those who speak up next are "silver", they will execute well. The rest are "bronze", they will support.

The very fact that collaborative tools have flooded the market is a strong indication they are much beneficial to teamwork. With the right tools, apart from the actual tech stack, a client meeting with sales, tech team at 9:00 AM can become a delivered product feature by 5:00 PM, which would delight the customer and keep him coming back to you. Work culture & ethics can also be defined via tools, & team members educated in case they miss a step. Licensed tools cost the earth, (SaaS helps) so if you have homegrown tools, which leverage on levels of complexity required by the team, based on how/when/what for its used for, they will prove to be profitable. Email has evolved over the pandemic years, literally revolutionizing the written word.

One of the best ways for a team to reflect where they are & plan to be where they want to be, is to draw the state of their product as a "thing", "anything" - like a road, a ship, a bus, a wall or floor design, a light bulb, a conch, a tree, a dog, a cat etc. They should then suggest 3 features that could make a better version of the "thing", i.e., product and draw that too. The route from version 0 to 1 will mostly be ridden with obstacles. The team should discuss the solutions to these obstacles, also measuring how much they increase the commercial value of the product, and how much they will need to spend (licensing fees, membership fees, training spend). The team should decide on a priority chart which will be an adaptation to-do list.

I successfully helped set up a revenue stream for a product I was managing, by simply listening to my team and customer. Our approach was systematic, focused and objective. I understood the sales angle well, even though I was a Sr. PM only, given my voracious appetite to read. I delegated many Sr. PM redundant tasks, to plan how, when, where, why & what to innovate. I split redundant planning tasks to Associate PMs & core team members, helping them automate the release estimation process, aiding our tool to mature into a product. We managed risks & shared bug reports with QA/senior colleagues. Regular customer inputs & team meetings, studying the Issue Tracker log helped us stay on course & then we phased out the commercial features 1 by 1.
