Lo primero que hago es agradecer a los profesionales que se toman el tiempo de evaluar tu proyecto. Pero hay evaluaciones de evaluaciones. Algunas son poco profundas, con comentarios generales e intuyes, rápidamente, que se leyeron el proyecto a la carrera. Con todo y eso, te ayuda a tener una perspectiva diferente. Yo filtro muy bien estos comentarios, incluso si aparentemente son buenas ideas. Pueden traicionar por completo la narrativa que estamos intentando construir. Have they successfully done what you are asking them to do now? Do they do what they say they are going to do? And finally: Did their critique help your project, get you wins rather than losses? Protect yourself and your work.

I recently saw an interview director Lulu Wang gave at AFI where she described her strength as being open and collaborative. She also hit on the unfortunate reality for women that this kind of collaboration can be misinterpreted as "not knowing what you want" or "not having a clear vision". As a female director I agree on both these points. My strength is putting a crew together or learning from others who are more experienced is through collaboration. I have to rely on SMEs to inform a creative vision and make the most cost and time efficient choices to produce any kind of work. The catch-22 is inviting collaboration without coming across as "weak" or "uncertain" and that is where leadership style in development and on set are crucial.
