I for one did my intership Practical Learning 1&2 at an automotive Tier1 supplier because I was interested in Lean methodology and wanted to learn more about how Lean culture is embedded in an organization. I then moved on to a Graduate in Training in Logistics and Distribution, this helped diversify my skills and made me eligible to work in different industries. At the Logistics company I used some of the tools from Lean methodology to solve problems. However be cautious of just chasing interships as it may derail your growth. Completing internships (or moving in different companies) across various industries has provided me with a perspective of why I chose IE, as well as a clear awareness of my strengths, weaknesses, and the opportunities I aspire to explore. Through a recent internship, I have identified a niche within IE that I am now dedicated to strengthen. However, I firmly believe that the journey of exploration and growth doesn't end upon discovering one's niche. Continuously exploring and learning is important to both personal and career growth for me. My niche just keeps me motivated to embark on an unknown exciting journey in order to be an expert.

Not only for Industrial Engineering, but for any intern: In each company, or in different teams in the same company, you will deal with less or more bureaucratic processes, less or more automated activities, knowledge that is well documented or undocumented. This will make you have triggers for possible improvements in future teams that will work, as well as good practices and everyday business pains.

Agree, if you can target good companies that’s a significant advantage in a short while when new hire is opened. Indirectly you have a better position amongst the ones with minimal interaction on the market but directly if you make good inpression at the companies you will be choosen naturally if an opportunity comes.
