The complexity of a project almost never depends on the scope of application. There are both simple and complex projects everywhere. It is better to focus on the area of interest, for example, game development/banking/web, etc. And in this area, look for a project that is suitable for the skill level.

When doing continuous learning, focus on high level “why?” rather than concrete implementation details. You should be able to go from one language to another, one library to another etc. and still be able to answer why things are needed for a solution on a higher level. End-to-end understanding of software systems is crucial. I once got stuck in one particular part of programming, and in the name of continuous learning got very skilled at that part. However, when I got into the real world, I quickly realized that I should have been focusing on other things as well.

I’ve found it helpful to simply put in a calender blocker each workday for an hour, and do focused learning only. It doesn’t really matter what you’re learning, so long as you’re challenging yourself and the way you think about problem solving.

Consolidating knowledge in practice is the key to success. If you develop the habit of coding regularly, then you will solve similar tasks automatically, almost reflexively.

I slightly disagree. There is nothing wrong with looking online for issues on what can have caused a bug. Often, you’ll find yourself fighting with an enigmatic third party error message, and good debugging skills will not necessarily be your solution there, if you do not understand the reasoning behind that third party module. However, googling everything and never using the debugger is definitely a bad symptom. Every programmer should know how to use a debugger reasonably effectively.

Debugging helps to reduce the overall development time. The developer must first check his code at least at a basic level before sending it to the QA department. Without debugging, writing code turns into 'extrasensory programming'.

Aim to work with the people you disagree with the most. That’s probably where I’ve personally learned the most. It is a golden ticket to gain perspective, and thereby learning. Don’t be afraid to question each other, as long as it’s done in a professional matter of course.
