When I say things like "you need to work on your customer service" it's interpreted incorrectly. The person may agree and they may truly go work on it, but they may not work on the areas I need them to work on. I suggest having 1-3 examples of the specifics they need to work on. EXAMPLE: Problem: Work on customer service 1.) Smile and make eye contact during greeting 2.) Answer the phone via the script vs just saying "hello" 3.) When someone is upset, take ownership. Do not give them an explanation of the problem.

The balance lives in them fully understanding the issue and most importantly why it's an issue. While also understanding how GREAT they can be if they improve this area. This typically leads to more motivated change.

I love to follow up after feedback meetings-to see how someone has taken the time to reflect while also reflecting on my own practices. Usually, the follow up session is a pleasant conversation about changes in practices on both sides. Growing together-pretty cool.
